The Setup: Yet another post to one of those self-deluded liberal outposts on the Internet, explaining why each and every one of them should wake the hell up, pull their heads out of their butts, and start acting like mature human beings. Don't know sometimes why I waste my breath. This particular one was rattling on about what was then current news -- California's Proposition 8, in which the concept of 'gay marriage' was put up for a vote by the entire state. Despite a 24/7 media blitz ("No H8," my ass), they went down (sorry, couldn't resist) to ignominious defeat. It would be almost two decades before the U.S. Supreme Court would invalidate the decision. Whether you believe that 'love is love,' or that something darker is lurking in their drive to destroy traditional family values, I'm not sure that political leanings have any bearing, judging from the number of gay Republicans I know. This rant was in response to a vacuous airhead who claimed that 8 was a vile cornucopia of far-right-wing hatred for all right-thinking liberals everywhere. Oh, how wrong this person was, which is why I responded as you see below....
So sad. So many people lied to. So many people deluded. Here's the flat truth: the only difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Republicans want Big Business to control your life, and Democrats want Big Government to control your life. They are two sides of the same coin, a mere millimeter apart. Those who decry the Religious Right never seem to catch on that they're being used by the Atheist Left. They are dupes, patsies, and fools. Stop the madness. Stop mouthing the same tired cliches. Come up with some new cliches of your own. Think for yourself, and stop the knee-jerk reactionism that exists only because your own ox was gored when they told you that being a small minority didn't entitle you to rights that don't exist under current law. You see, when 51% of the American public vote for a single candidate, that's called a plurality. Forget the dictionary definition -- to quote Asimov, dictionaries are monuments to language as used in the last century. The term simply means that we get exactly the Government we deserve. Vox Populi, Vox Dei. The People, in their infinite wisdom, have spoken. Feel grateful you live in a country where you can express an unfortunate viewpoint, for I can think of at least three where espousing the cause you've stated in your opinion above would get you killed in a rather grisly fashion. You've a mind, so re-examine your beliefs, and be honest with yourself. Why is it that certain minorities are kept in poverty by the very people who claim to want to help them, aided by their so-called leaders, who trade blocks of votes for the power to keep these people economically enslaved? Why do some insist that all reference to religion be removed from our society? Why do some believe that the term "civil servant" is semantically equivalent to "civil master?" Why do some want to disarm the American public, denying their basic human right to self-preservation and self-determination? Why do politicians play tug-of-war with what should be a woman's own business and nobody else's? Why are we lied to in every newspaper, on every TV station, and even at the movies? Why are teachers getting involved in politics? Answer those questions honestly for yourself, and you're on the road to self-awareness and self-determination. Just beware -- once you set off down this road, you will never again be able to accept what you're told without testing it for truth first. It's a lonely road, fraught with peril. Once you go there, you'll have to ask why that mom who lost her son is making such a fuss when the son re-enlisted after having been sent to Iraq (oops -- who didn't tell us that little fact, and why didn't they tell us?). You'll have to ask why Teddy "Chappaquiddick" Kennedy sits in judgement of Supreme Court nominees, pretending to some moral high ground, when we all know what kind of drunken, philandering snake he really is. You'll have to ask why the Fox News Network, which actually applies the classic journalistic tenet of fairly telling both sides of every story, is derided as being "right-wing" when it's actually dead-center. It's like realizing that the padre doesn't really speak for God, and that you'll never again be able to accept anything on Faith alone. It's a bit frightening, but it's also liberating. Set yourself free, and walk the Glory Road to Truth and Enlightenment. And now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go put one of those magnetic yellow ribbons on my car. It reads, "Support Our Troops -- Shoot A Liberal!"
